What does it mean to open a window ???? You get some view of the outside, right? So, the vision I have for this course is to encourage you to open NEW (virtual) windows, to see situations or issues related to European histories, cultures and societies from A NEW ANGLE. Through the use of original materials based on video footage or feature film recent topics have included using polite language, idiomatic expressions, comparing habits inside the home, environmental concerns, religious festivals, national symbols, urban agriculture. At the same time, I hope to relate the selected topics to aspects of Japanese history or culture, thereby bridging East & West. If you spend time reading the handouts before class, you will enjoy the course more！
